# Exercise plan and instructions

## What to practice

For one fictional business, produce a positioning sentence, an explanatory paragraph and a one-page mechanism diagram. Ask an unfamiliar reader to retell independently, then revise from feedback.

This trains information organization and expression, not actual commercial success. The four questions, schedule and review table are teaching designs, not validated assessment scales.

## Shared scope

- Business: store campaign-material collaboration service, at proposal/desktop-sample stage.
- Audience: heads of small multi-store retail teams new to the proposal.
- Roles: retail-appointed campaign owner, service team and stores. Owner consolidates requirements and confirms finally; stores arrange their own printing/online use.
- Evidence: simulated materials/samples only; no actual store trials or effect records.
- Reference expressions/diagram: read after drafting and retelling; not the sole answer.

## Suggested 75-minute plan

Adjust to discussion depth. Times are suggestions, not measured results.

| Step | Suggested time | Action | Output |
| --- | --- | --- | --- |
| Read evidence/check samples | 10 minutes | E01–E08 and samples; separate facts, hypotheses and plans | Status list |
| Sort four questions | 10 minutes | Answer with fact IDs; log gaps | Working table |
| Three forms | 20 minutes | Sentence, paragraph and diagram | First set |
| Unfamiliar reader retelling | 10 minutes | Independent reading, no prior author explanation | Actual words |
| Revise/retest | 15 minutes | Separate expression issues/evidence gaps; revise and reread | Second version/reasons |
| Reference review | 10 minutes | Read references last; check facts/relationships | Version check/next steps |

## Working in pairs

One organizes; the other initially avoids original evidence and acts as a new reader. Give the reader finished content first, without oral coaching or reference expressions.

With several readers, let different people see the sentence, paragraph or diagram and record each understanding. Do not simply rank groups: backgrounds and material lengths may differ.

With one reader, reveal sentence, paragraph and diagram progressively, recording added understanding each time rather than calling later rounds independent. A revised version is also affected by earlier reading; log that limit. For less contaminated feedback, find someone who has not seen earlier versions.

## Practicing alone

Complete source organization, three forms and consistency checking first. Self-questioning finds some omissions, but prior business knowledge means it cannot replace an unfamiliar reader. If none is available, mark retelling pending; do not invent feedback.

## Deliverables

1. Four-question table with fact IDs/status.
2. Sentence, paragraph and diagram for the same business.
3. Actual reader words, omissions, misunderstandings, extra inferences and cause hypotheses.
4. Before/after comparison and remaining evidence/trial needs.
5. Shared version ID, date and checker across all three forms.

No fixed word count; elegant rhetoric or reader agreement is not the only standard. A sentence should independently identify the broad audience/matter and retain stage limits that change understanding. Paragraphs/captions supply the rest.
